YouTube channel, TheBitBlock, made a conceptual video of what a subscription-based virtual console could look like on the Nintendo Switch. About 2 years ago, I wrote a similar article on the topic of Nintendo doing this as their virtual console format going forward and TheBitBlock hit the nail on the head and was able to detail exactly what I envisioned at that time. Out of the big three, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, Nintendo easily has one of the best backlogs in gaming history. They also have the platforms that would be considered appealing enough to buy into an idea like this. Check out the video below to see how this concept could be actualized.
Thinking about having NES, SNES, N64, GameCube and Wii games, or even games from Sega’s catalog, at your fingertips on-demand is awfully exciting. Being able to get them more frequently similarly to how Netflix updates their service could bode well for everyone interested – especially Nintendo.
